Laura’s perspective

You’re seeking change, healing, insight, relief, or a way to reach your goals.  I can help.

Do you feel you’ve done all you can and it’s still not working? Do you need a new approach and a way forward? Are you feeling like you can’t keep over functioning anymore? Are you experiencing the shock and grief that follows the betrayal of infidelity? Are you feeling frustrated in your life about not being able to reach your potential? Are you feeling disconnected or distant and longing for more? Are you carrying pain that is a burden? I know that change and healing are truly possible. I witness transformation in people and relationships on a daily basis. If you’re experiencing deep pain, loss, grief, fear, or longing for more—more connection, more understanding, more partnership, more safety and trust, more effective communication, more intimacy, the ability to feel calm enough to work things out, to feel you matter, a greater sense of purpose, discernment, or freedom from anxiety or symptoms following trauma—I can help. I love partnering with people in any stage of life to move towards the lives they desire, no matter how challenged you may feel now.

I’m a highly trained mental health practitioner with master of science degrees in marriage and family therapy and holistic nutrition, and specialized training in a number of areas.  I am passionate about helping people to build satisfying relationships and vibrant, engaged lives at any stage of life.  I provide individual therapy, couples therapy, trauma therapy, sex therapy, family therapy, and therapy for medical issues to the Twin Cities and their surrounding communities. I am available five days per week, including three evenings per week and Saturdays.

I work with individuals (age 11+), couples, and families to prepare for or resolve issues including: communication, conflict, ineffective patterns, infertility, miscarriage or pregnancy loss, pregnancy, birth or adoption, parenting, difficult transitions, impasses, sexuality and intimacy at any age, infidelity and trust, quarter life or midlife issues, growing together (or back together), life changing illness, traumatic experience or cumulative stress, grief and loss, ambiguous loss, career or school pressures, anxiety and stress, and to reach goals, design an intentional life, and achieve peak performance.  I can also work with one partner towards change in a couple relationship. Read more about my areas of practice here.

Though I work with people on a wide variety of challenges, I have specialized training to work with those impacted by past or current experiences, patterns, and events, and can provide private, comprehensive therapy to help reduce and eliminate the symptoms, effects, and challenges that sometimes follow difficult or traumatic experiences.

I am warm, calm, compassionate, non-judgmental, and take a collaborative and holistic approach to change, healing, and wellness.  I have been married for more than 25 years and with my husband for more than 30 years.  And we have raised two children together, now young adults.  I have lived abroad four times for education and career in Asia, the U.K., and Europe.  As such, I am open minded and have a perspective on the ways that culture, values, and formative experiences shape our lives, patterns, sense of self, and relationships.

I believe that if we could think our way out of problems we would.  So in addition to tools, support, counseling, and resources I can also provide compassionate, solution-driven therapy that may incorporate the body and nervous system and the brain (Somatic Experiencing and EMDR).  Spending time in this way, if you choose, facilitates deep insight, healing, and change.

So what’s it like to work with me?  If you liked that teacher who inspired you, who was patient but also direct, who had passion and great hope and believed in you, you’ll probably find I’m a good fit.  Having faced pain and challenges in my own life, I am comfortable being in what is yet unknown and walking with people through gaining insight, discerning decisions, healing, finding relief, and making and sustaining change.  I approach this work with great passion and dedication.  It’s incredibly rewarding and exciting to help people build the relationships and lives they long for, to facilitate healing, to help people move intentionally through difficult periods, to be freed from suffering, and to achieve mastery.  I love this work and am fully present and truly invested in you and your wellbeing.
